About this project
Sitr (سِتْر) is a Manifest V3 browser extension that blocks adult, gambling, and dating sites and enforces SafeSearch (Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo) and YouTube Restricted Mode — entirely on the user's device, using the browser's declarativeNetRequest engine. It is private by construction: browsing history never leaves the browser, the extension makes no per-request server calls, and there are no ad networks, analytics SDKs, or telemetry of any kind. The blocklist is identical for every user and published openly, with a documented inclusion policy and appeals process. Deterministic builds turn the public domain lists into shipped rulesets byte-reproducibly, with published checksums so anyone can rebuild and verify. If protection isn't provably active, the extension shows a visible "Protection INACTIVE" badge — it never pretends.
